A joint EU-U.S.-China training seminar for toy manufacturers and exporters will take place in Guangzhou on Monday September 22. This event is part of the joint EU-U.S.-China Initiative on Consumer Product Safety Compliance, which will commence in Beijing on 19th September, with a Tripartite meeting of senior officials. This seminar is one in a series of seminars that will take place in the People's Republic of China, from 19 September to 24 September.
Product safety is a focal area of concern for the three parties. They have made significant efforts in the past years in this domain and they are now adding a tripartite initiative to the already existing and fruitful bilateral mechanisms. The Guangzhou meeting will focus on consumer product safety issues relevant to toy producers.
The seminar brings together Chinese, EU and U.S. regulators, businesses, standard-makers and test laboratories. The presentations will clarify the European, the U.S. and the Chinese safety requirements for toys. The aim is to achieve greater understanding of product safety requirements and thereby ensuring safety throughout the entire supply chain. Talks will also cover recent developments and best practices in market surveillance and consumer product safety compliance.
The European Commission delegation in Guangzhou is led by Mr. Pedro Ortún, Director for New Approach Industries, Tourism and CSR in Directorate-General for Enterprise, and Industry and Ms. Jacqueline Minor, Director for Consumer Affairs in Directorate-General for Health and Consumers. They will open the seminar together with Mr. Wang Xin, Director General of Supervision on Inspection Department of the Chinese Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), and Mrs. Nancy Nord, Acting Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The three parties will also be holding a joint press conference on Monday, September 22. As places for this press conference are limited, we would ask you to signal your intention to participate by the latest close of business on Tuesday 16th September.
Please remember that the press conference is under the control of AQSIQ authorities and all we can do is offer places on a first come, first served basis.
