Mount Taishan lies in the middle of Shandong Province and has a scenic area of 250 square kilometers. Its main peak rises 1,545 meters above sea level.
The Mountain has been a place where numerous emperors (72) in the Zhou dynasty went to meditate, worship and sacrifice, since they considered the mountain to be a symbol of heaven. It has also inspired numerous artists to write and leave poems and calligraphy works because of its scenery and ancient history. Taishan is seen as an important symbol for the Chinese civilization.
Of the five famous Sacred Mountains in China, Mount Taishan is regarded as the first, because of its scenery and its historic and cultural value.
