The Daguanlou

Dashilan Street, a well-known bustling area reminiscent of old Beijing
, is also home to the first cinema in China, the Daguanlou. Literally the Grand
View House, the Daguanlou has been showing films for over 100 years, and is
rumored to be the oldest operating cinema in the world.
From teahouse
to cinema
Engraved on the front wall of Daguanlou are four Chinese
characters , meaning "teahouse", and "movie and opera", summarizing the
history of China's first cinema.
