APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR CHINA/UNESCO -THE Great Wall FELLOWSHIP
China/UNESCO ¨C the Great Wall Fellowship scheme is a full scholarship scheme set up by the Ministry of Education of China (hereinafter referred to as MOEC) for candidates recommended by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC) administers the recruitment and the routine management of the scheme.
Categories of Applicants and Duration of Scholarship
This scheme sponsors general scholars and senior scholars, and in principle the courses will be taught in English with duration of at most one year. Candidates who will be taught in Chinese are required to get the confirmation from both CSC and UNESCO before starting their study. And the total scholarship duration will be one-year Chinese language training plus one-year major study.
Application
Applicants should apply to the National Commission for UNESCO in their home country between January and April every year.
Eligibility
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in good health.
2. Educational background and age limit:
-plicants for general scholars must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies and be under the age of45.
-plicants for senior scholars must have master or higher degree or hold academic title of associate professor or higher and be under the age of 50.
Details of the Scholarship
Full scholarship:
-Excempt from registration fee, tuition fee, fee for laboratory experiment, fee for internship, fee for basic learning materials and accommodation;
-ving allowance and a one-off settlement subsidy;
-Fee for outpatient medical service, Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China;
-A hard-seat train ticket between the port of entry on registration or the port of departure on graduation and the city where the host university or the university of Chinese language studies is located (a hard-berth train ticket for over-night trip).
Note: 1. Costs of the laboratory experiment or internship that beyond the universityĄŻs arrangements should be afforded by the student himself.
2. Scholarship students who have to suspend their education for the reason of illness should:
-Return to their home country for further treatment and rest;
-The international travel expenses of return and coming back should be shouldered by the students themselves;
-The scholarship will be reserved for at most one year;
-The monthly living allowance will be stopped during the suspension of education;
-The scholarship of the students who suspend their education for reasons other than illness will be terminated.
3. Monthly living allowance is paid to the students by the host institution at the following rates (CNY yuan per month):
-General scholars: CNY 1,100 yuan
-Senior scholars: CNY 1,400 yuan
Scholarship students shall get their monthly living allowance from the date of registration. Those who register before 15th (15th included) of the registration month will get the living allowance of a full month, and those who register after 15th will get that of a half month. Scholarship of the graduates will be paid half month after their graduation date. Scholarship of those who suspend or quit their studies will be stopped from the following month. Monthly living allowance will be paid during Chinese national holidays. Scholarship students who do not get the monthly living allowance during holidays can get reimbursed on return. Monthly living allowance of the scholarship students who do not register on time or stay away from university up to one month because of non-health reasons will be stopped.
4. Fee for outpatient medical service refers to the outpatient expense generated in the institutionĄŻs hospital or the hospitals appointed by the institutions. The students should afford a certain percentage of expense in accordance with the institutionĄŻs relevant regulations.
5.Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China is insured by the MOEC for the scholarship students in China against diseases and accidents. The institution is entitled to ask for compensation on the payment receipts from the insurance company for the expenses generated from hospitalizing for serious diseases or from accidental injury according to the stipulated insurance articles.
6. A one-off settlement subsidy after registration
- CNY 300 yuan for new students whose period of studies in China lasts up to six months
- CNY 600 yuan for new students whose period of studies in China lasts one academic year or more
7. A one-off inter-city travel ticket (each for coming-in and leaving China)
Scholarship students are supposed to choose the nearest port to their admitting institutions for inter-city travel and a hard-seat train ticket (hard-berth train ticket only for overnight trip) will be provided to:
--Freshmen transfer from the port of entry to the city where the admitting institution is located
--Students finishing study in China transfer from the city where the institution is located to the nearest port for departure
Expenses for food during the trip and excess of baggage should be self-afforded.
8. International travel expenses
MOEC will provide the international students round-trip or one-way international air ticket based on the agreements reached, and entrust CSC to take charge of booking the most doable and economical international air ticket for the students between Beijing and their capitals. If the students take other line come to China or return back to their home country, they should afford the extra expenses as well as the excess of baggage.
Application Materials
The applicants must fill in and provide the following materials truly and correctly (in duplicate).
1.Application Form for China/UNESCO - the Great Wall Fellowship (printed by CSC), in Chinese or in English.
2.Highest diploma (notarized photocopy). If applicants are university students or already employed, they should also provide documents of being university students or on-post employees. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
3.Transcripts (notarized photocopy); transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
4.Senior scholars must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English by two professors or associate professors.
5.Applicants for music are requested to submit one cassette recording of the applicantsĄŻ own work; applicants for fine arts must submit six color photographs of personal works (two sketches, two color paintings and two other works).
6.A study or research plan written in Chinese or English (no less than 400 words).
7.Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (printed by Chinese quarantine authority and only for those whose period of studies in China lasts up to six months) filled in English. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants is invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for 6 months. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration while determining the time to take the medical examination.
The above materials shall be submitted to CSC by the headquarters of UNESCO by April 30th2007. CSC does not accept individual applications. Application materials will not be returned regardless of the result of application.
Selection of Institutions and Specialty
Applicants may choose 3 institutions and 1 specialty as personal preference from the Chinese institutions designated by the Ministry of Education of China. Please check the Directory of the Chinese Institutions Admitting International Students under Chinese Government Scholarship Programme or the website of CSC (http://www.csc.edu.cn) for details. Applicants are required to fill in their preferences of institutions and specialty strictly within the ones listed in the Directory. A specified study or research plan is highly required.
Approval and Notification
1.CSC will review all the application materials from the appointed authorities and CSC is authorized to make necessary adjustments on the applied institutions, specialties and duration of study. The qualified applications will be forwarded to different institutions and the final decision whether to admit the applicants or not will be made by them. The application will be seen as invalid and will not be processed if the applicants are not qualified or the application materials are inconsistent with the recruitment regulations or are incomplete.
2.Applicants are encouraged to contact the institutions and tutors (115 institutions specified by MOEC listed in the Directory) prior to application and please enclose the relevant admission or recommendation letter if there is.
3.Scholarship applicants accepted by Chinese institutions of higher education will be officially approved as Chinese Government Scholarship students with endorsement from the MOEC.
4.Students are not permitted, in principle, to change their specialties, institutions or the duration of study specified in the Admission Noticeafter registration.
5.CSC will send the List of Enrolled Students, Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study In China (JW201) to the relevant dispatching authorities by July 31, so as to have these documents forwarded to the awardees.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR SHORT-TERM SCHOLARSHIP FOR TEACHERS OF CHINESE LANGUAGE FROM ABROAD
The Short-term Scholarship Scheme for the Teachers of Chinese Language from Abroad was set up by the Ministry of Education of China (hereinafter referred to as MOEC) to sponsor overseas full time teachers of Chinese language, with a view to improve their Chinese language teaching skills and to facilitate the cooperation and exchange in the field of Chinese language teaching among scholars from different nations. China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC) administers the recruitment and routine management of the scheme.
126 full scholarships will be provided in 2007.
Application
The applicants may apply for the scholarship through Chinese Embassy or Consulate in their home country or directly apply to CSC. The deadline for the application is April 30th, 2007.
Eligibility:
1ŁŽApplicants must be non-Chinese national, be in good health and under the age of 50.
2ŁŽApplicants must be engaged in teaching Chinese for at least three consecutive years and hold the teaching post at the present.
3ŁŽApplicants must have obtained BachelorĄŻs degree or above.
Details of the Scholarship
1ŁŽExemption of tuition fee, fee for basic learning materials and accommodation

Application Materials

3ŁŽTwo letters of recommendation by the president of the institution or professor engaged in Chinese teaching respectively. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or in English.
4ŁŽDocuments of being at post of Chinese teaching; documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations (notarized photocopy) in Chinese or in English.
5ŁŽStudy plan written in Chinese (no less than 400 words).
The application materials should reach CSC before April 30th 2007.
Approval and Notification
CSCwill review the application materials before forwarding them to relevant institutions for admission. CSC will send the Confirmation of Short-term Scholarship for the Teachers of Chinese Language from abroad, Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW 201) to the relevant Chinese diplomatic missions by June 15th, 2007 so as to have these documents forwarded to the awardees.

MEASURES OF Annual Review OF CHINESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP STATUS
Article 1. In accordance with the relevant regulations on the management of Chinese Government Scholarship, to reinforce the management of Chinese Government Scholarship and to bring its benefits and effects into full play, the following measures are formulated specifically to carry out Annual Review of the Chinese Government Scholarship Status (hereinafter referred to as Annual Review)
Article 2. Annual Review refers to the comprehensive assessment system through which the international students studying in China under Chinese Government Scholarship Programmes (hereinafter referred to as the scholarship students) should go annually. It will decide whether they are qualified to continue enjoying or to renew the scholarship.
Article 3. TheMinistry of Education of China entrusts China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC) to take charge of the organization and implementation of Annual Review.
The Administrations for education in provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities shall be in responsible for the relative coordination work of Annual Review in the institutions.
The institutions are entitled to give Annual Review to their own scholarship students.
Article 4. The scholarship students who have been studying in China for more than one year or who have finished their planned study programmes and wish to extend their scholarship should go through Annual Review.
Article 5. The details of Annual Review include:
1. performances (including the examination or checkup results of all courses in the first term and the general performances in the second term of this academic year),
2. attitude towards study, attendance,
3. conducts, rewards and punishments received.
Article 6. According to the teaching and the student status management, the institutions shall set up the specific methods and different standards for Annual Review. On basis of the above, the institution will assess whether the students are qualified to continue enjoying or to renew the scholarship. And then put forward their results either qualified or unqualified, and proposals on whether to provide, suspend or terminate the scholarship.
According to the assessments and suggestions of the institutions, CSC will make the final decision whether to continuously provide, suspend or terminate the scholarship.
Article 7. The scholarship will be suspended for one year if the students:
1. fail to go up to the next grade or degrade due to the incompetent examination results,
2. or have not reached the required credits of the courses in two consecutive years,
3. or have been kept in school but placed under surveillance.
The students whose scholarships are suspended, from the beginning of next academic year, will not enjoy the scholarships any more. However, they can apply to continue their studies as self-financed students or ask for exemption of certain fees according to the regulations of the institutions. Before the period of suspension is over, those involved can apply to go through Annual Review of that year. If they pass the review and get the approval from CSC, they can renew their scholarship from the next academic year.
Article 8. The scholarship will be terminated if the students:
1. are compelled to flunk out or dismissed from the institution,
2. or fail twice in Annual Review during the studies in China,
3. or refuse to take Annual Review without persuasive reasons.
Those who have their scholarship terminated will not enjoy the scholarships from the day of proclamation and cannot renew their scholarships any more.
Article 9. Procedures of Annual Review:
1. Scholarship students should apply for and fill out correctly the Form for Annual Review of Chinese Government Scholarship Status (hereinafter referred to as the Form), which are printed by CSC, in conformity to the time and requirements set by the institutions and submit the Form completed to the institutions before the deadline.
2. In accordance with the requirements and standards of Annual Review, the institutions, after filling the suggestions of Annual Review into the Form, shall send the report on Annual Review, the name-list of the scholarship students who have passed and the forms of those who have failed in the Annual Review to CSC before May 31st. The report should also be sent to the Administrations for education in provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.
3. Annual Review of those who require to be transferred to another institution (including remedial Chinese language students) should be processed by the previous institution, which is responsible to pass the materials and results of Annual Review to the target institution.
4. CSC will notify the institutions and the Administrations for education in provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities the final results of Annual Review before June 15th . The institutions shall inform the scholarship students the decisions and remind the embassy of the dispatching country or dispatching organization about the students whose scholarship have been suspended or terminated after the Annual Review.
Article 10. The Measures will exert effect from the day of proclamation.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF PING AN LIFE INSURANCEĄŻS OVERALL INSURANCE & BENEFIT PLAN FOR PEOPLE COMING TO CHINA COMPREHENSIVE MEDICAL INSURANCE AND BENEFIT PLAN FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN CHINA
Insurance Liabilities
1. This company shall undertake the following insurance liabilities during the period of insurance:
1. Loss of Life Insurance
This company shall pay the stipulated amount of insurance compensation if the Insured dies of any accidental injury or disease (including SARS).
2. Disability Insurance
If the Insured suffers from any accidental injury which results in any disability within 180 days since the occurrence of the accidental injury, this company shall be liable for the agreed amount of insurance multiplying the proportion stipulated in the Proportion Table between the Degree of Disability and the Payment attached to Ping AnĄŻs Additional Liability Clause for Accidental Disability.
This company shall respectively pay the insurance compensation for accidental disability in accordance with the stipulations no matter the Insured suffers from accidental injury for once or several times, however the accumulative payment hereto shall not exceed the stipulated amount of insurance.
If the Insured dies of the same reason within 180 days since the occurrence of accidental injury which results in any disability, this company shall be liable only for the difference between the stipulated amount of insurance and the insurance compensation for accidental disability; if the Insured dies after 180 days, this company shall pay the stipulated amount of insurance no matter the death is caused by the same reason.
3. Accidental Injury Medical Treatment Insurance
If the Insured receives any medical treatment within 180 days since the occurrence of the accidental injury, this company shall be liable for the actual and reasonable expenses for medical treatment; however the accumulative payment shall not exceed the stipulated amount of insurance.
4. Hospitalization Medical Insurance
If the Insured must be hospitalized through diagnosis for any accidental injury or disease (including SARS), this company shall be liable for the actual and reasonable expenses for medical treatment including nursing fee (limited to RMB100 Yuan per day), bed fee (limited to RMB100 Yuan per day), expenses for operation, medicine, treatment, laboratory test, radiation and examination, however the accumulative payment shall not exceed the stipulated
5.Group Major Medical Expenses Insurance
As for the reasonable and necessary expenses for the medical treatment hereto occurred during the period of insurance as well as the expenses for hospitalization medical expenses (including the bed fee (limited to RMB100 Yuan per day), expenses for medicine, nursing fee (limited to RMB100 Yuan per day), treatment, laboratory test and examination, special examination and treatment, ambulance and operation) which is occurred during the period of insurance and extended into one month after the expiration of the insurance agreement, if the Insured is hospitalized for any disease (including SARS) or accidental injury, this company shall be liable for the amount of insurance compensation exceeding RMB60,000 Yuan but limited to RMB400,000 Yuan.
Note: 1)All the foregoing medical organizations shall be limited to the public hospitals established within the board of the PeopleĄŻs Republic of China;
2)The scope of medical treatment expenses shall be limited to the items and expenses which can be reimbursed in accordance with the local regulations on social basic medical insurance. However the expenses for the B-class medicine shall be paid by themselves.
Liability Exemption
Liability Exemption for Loss of Life and Disability
This company shall be exempted from the insurance liabilities for the loss of life and disability of the Insured for any of the following circumstances:
1. any intentional act of the applicant for insurance or the beneficiary;
2. criminal act, addiction to narcotic, fighting, drunkenness, self-injury or suicide of the insured;
3. driving while intoxicated or driving without license of the insured;
4. pregnancy, miscarriage or childbirth of the insured;
5. AIDS or other VD of the insured;
6. War, military action, civil rebellion or armed revolt;
7. Nuclear explosion, radiation or pollution;
8. High-risk sports and athletic activities by the professionals;
If any of the foregoing circumstances happens resulting in the death of the Insured, this company shall end the insurance liabilities and return the immature insurance premium after the deduction of the commission.
Liability Exemption for Medical Treatment (accidental injury medical treatment, hospitalization medical treatment and major medical expenses)
This company shall be exempted from the insurance liabilities for any of the following circumstances:
1. intentional killing or injure the insured by the applicant or the beneficiary;
2. criminal act or arrest resistance , suicide or intentional self-injury of the insured;
3. fighting, drunkenness, drug taking, addiction or injection of the insured;
4. driving while intoxicated or without license or driving motor-driven vehicle without valid driving certificate of the insured;
5. medical accident occurred during the cosmetic operation or other physician or surgery operations of the insured;
6. the expenses for orthopaedic, cosmetic operation or rehabilitating treatment of the insured;
7. registration fee, expenses for board, accompanying accommodation, heating and traffic of the insured;
8. items and drugs at private expense stipulated by the local departments in charge of the social basic medical insurance or medical treatment on public expense;
9. taking, coating or injecting drugs not in conformity with doctorĄŻs advice;
10. war, military act, rebellion or armed revolt;
11. nuclear explosion, radiation or pollution;
12. previous disease, mental disease, AIDS, VD, congenital or hereditary disease and the complications before the first application for insurance;
13. medical treatment expenses occurred out of the board of the PeopleĄŻs Republic of China;
14. pregnancy, miscarriage or childbirth of the insured;
15. out-patient treatment expenses of common disease.

NOTICE TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS STUDING IN CHINA UNDER CHINESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME
In order to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and people from the whole world, and to develop cooperation and exchange in fields of education, science, culture, economy and trade between China and other countries, Chinese government has set up a series of scholarship schemes to sponsor international students and scholars to undertake studies and research in Chinese institutions of higher education.
The Ministry of Education of China (hereinafter referred to as MOEC) is responsible for the provision of Chinese government scholarships, and it entrusts China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC) to administer the recruitment of international students and the routine management of Chinese Government Scholarship Programmes.
International students under Chinese Government Scholarship Programmes will be placed in Chinese institutions of higher education designated by MOEC. Various specialties in science, technology, agronomy, medicine, economics, laws, management, education, history, liberal arts and philosophy are available to international students in these institutions.
We welcome outstanding students, scholars and teachers from all countries coming to study or undertake research in institutions of higher education in China.
Chinese Government Scholarship Programme and Application
1.Chinese Government Scholarship Scheme (Recruitment Quota Specified on the MOEC Scholarship Scheme)
It was established by MOEC in accordance with educational exchange agreements or understandings reached between Chinese government and governments of other countries, education organs, institutions and relevant international organizations to provide both full scholarships and partial scholarships to international students and scholars. The scheme supports students who come to study in China as undergraduates, postgraduates, Chinese language students, general scholars and senior scholars. Applicants may apply for the scholarship through the competent authorities, appointed institutions or the Chinese diplomatic missions in their home countries.
2.CHINA/UNESCO ¨C the Great Wall Fellowship Scheme (25 scholarships available in 2007)
This is a full scholarship scheme set up by the MOEC for candidates recommended by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Scholarships for general scholar and senior scholar are eligible. Applicants may apply to the UNESCO National Committee in the applicantĄŻs home country.
3.Study in Asia Scholarship Scheme (20 scholarships available in 2007)
It is a full scholarship scheme established by the MOEC to stimulate the flow of Asian students and scholars in Asian area, to strengthen mutual understanding among the people from Asian countriesŁŹto develop cooperation and exchange in fields of education, and to promote Asian education quality. Applicants may apply to the Chinese diplomatic missions in the applicantĄŻs home country.
4.Distinguished International Students Scholarship Scheme (100 scholarships available in 2007)
It is a full scholarship scheme established by the MOEC to sponsor outstanding international students who have finished their BachelorĄŻs or MasterĄŻs education in China and have been enrolled by designated Chinese institutions as MasterĄŻs or Doctoral candidates or are now carrying out their MasterĄŻs or Doctoral studies in those institutions. Applicants may apply to CSC for the scholarship through recommendation of their host institutions.
5.Short-term Scholarship Scheme for Foreign Teachers of Chinese Language (130 scholarships available in 2007)
It was established by the MOEC to sponsor international teachers of Chinese language to do short-term training and research in China. Applicants may apply to CSC through the Chinese diplomatic missions in their home countries or directly to CSC.
6.Chinese Culture Research Fellowship Scheme (30 scholarships available in 2007)
The scheme was established by the MOEC to sponsor overseas scholars and specialists of Chinese culture to conduct short-term research in China. Applicants may apply to CSC through the recommendation of relevant Chinese institutions of higher education, authorities or the Chinese diplomatic missions in their home countries or directly to CSC.
Details of the Chinese Government Scholarships
1.Chinese Government Scholarship is divided into full scholarship and partial scholarship.
1ŁŠFull scholarship:
-Exempt from registration fee, tuition fee, fee for laboratory experiment, fee for internship, fee for basic learning materials and accommodation;
-Living allowance and a one-off settlement subsidy;
-Fee for outpatient medical service, Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China;
-A hard-seat train ticket between the port of entry on registration or the port of departure on graduation and the city where the host university or the university of Chinese language studies is located (a hard-berth train ticket for over-night trip).
2ŁŠPartial scholarship: One or some items of the full scholarship (one-off settlement subsidy and one-off inter-city travel allowance not included).
3ŁŠInternational travel expenses: Applicants are expected to meet their own international travel expenses unless it is set otherwise in bilateral agreements or arrangements.

Application for Chinese Government Scholarships
1.Application and Recruitment
The application season for the Chinese Government Scholarship Program is from January to April 2007. Details on the application procedures should be consulted directly to the dispatching organization in the applicantĄŻs home country.
2.Scholarship Application
Applicants should meet the basic qualifications prescribed in the Application Procedures, and must fill in the application forms strictly in accordance with requirements. They also need to provide relevant application materials including notarized photocopies of diplomas, transcripts, study plan, health certificate and recommendation letters. Application materials for scholarships must reach CSC before the deadline as specified in Application Procedures via the embassy in China or the Chinese diplomatic missions in the applicantĄŻs home country. Application materials arrived after the deadline will not be processed. Please check the attached Application Procedures for details.
Application materials will not be returned regardless of the result of application. Documents such as original diplomas and original Foreign Physical Examination Form must NOT be sent as application materials.
3.Choice of Institutions of Higher Education and Specialty
Applicants for Chinese Government Scholarships must choose their host institutions and specialties from the institutions of higher education designated by the MOEC. Please check the Directory of the Chinese Institutions Admitting International Students under Chinese Government Scholarship Programme or the website of CSC (http://www.csc.edu.cn) for details.
4.Language Used in Teaching
The Chinese institutions of higher education generally use Chinese as instruction language. Applicants with no command of Chinese are generally required to take Chinese language courses for 1-2 years before their major studies. In some institutions, some courses set for general scholars, senior scholars and postgraduate students can be conducted in English. Please refer Directory of the Chinese Institutions Admitting International Students under Chinese Government Scholarship Programme for details.
5.Foundation Courses held in Chinese institutions of higher education
According to the regulation of the MOEC, applicants from the scheme-specified countries who are to pursue the bachelor degree of science and technology, engineering, agronomy, medicine and economics are required to take a one-year foundation course, which cover the fundamentals of Chinese language, mathematics, physics and chemistry. The students who are qualified in the foundation course could start their undergraduate studies on time as specified on their Admission Notice. CSC entrusts Tianjin University and Nanjing Normal University to set the foundation class in 2007.
Recruitment of Scholarship Students
1.CSC will review all the application materials sent by the appointed authorities. CSC is authorized to make necessary adjustments on the proposed institutions, specialties and duration of the applicantĄŻs study in China. The application will not be processed if it is inconsistent with the recruitment requirements or the application materials are incomplete. Qualified applications will be forwarded to the institutions and the final decision whether to admit the applicants or not will be made by them.
2.If the applicant has been accepted by an institution (115 institutions specified by MOEC listed in the Directory) prior to application, the applicant is required to enclose the relevant admission letters.
3.Scholarship applicants accepted by Chinese institutions of higher education will be officially awarded the Chinese Government Scholarship with endorsement from the MOEC.
4.CSC will send the List of Accepted Students, Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study In China (JW201)to the relevant dispatching authorities by July 31, so as to have the documents forwarded to the students.
Visa Application and Registration in China
1.Visa Application
Students under Chinese Government Scholarship Program should apply for visa to study in China at the Chinese embassy or consulate-general with the original documents and one set of photocopies of the Admission Notice, Visa Application for Study In China (JW201)and Foreigner Physical Examination Formand validordinary passport. Those whose study period in China is above 6 month needs to apply for Ą°XĄą visa, and those who shall stay in China for less than 6 months (including 6 months) should apply for Ą°FĄą visa. The scholarship students must enter China with the original copies of the above documents. Whoever comes to China with other types of passports, visas or without the original documents will not be able to register with the institution, nor will they be able to apply for residence permit in China.
2.Registration
International students must register with the institution at the time specified in the Admission Notice. Those who are unable to register on time must seek permission from the institution directly. Those who fail to register without the prior consent of the institution will be considered as voluntarily giving up the enrollment and the scholarship will automatically be withdrawn.
3.Health Verification and Residence Registration
Health verification: Scholarship holders who are to stay in China for more than 6 months are requested to bring their passports, Admission Notice, and the original copies of Foreigner Physical Examination Formand the Blood Test Report to the local quarantine office within the set time to have their medical examination verified. International students whose Foreigner Physical Examination Form do not meet the requirement will have to re-take medical examination. Those who refuse to re-take the medical examination or are diagnosed as suffering from diseases that are not permitted to enter China under the Chinese laws and regulations will be required to leave China. The costs of medical examination and the international travel should be born by themselves.
Residence registration: After the health verification, the scholarship holders must apply for residence permit to the local police authority within 30 days on their arrival with their passports, Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study In China (JW201).
Transfer SERVICE
1.The Transfer Service Station for Chinese Government Full-Scholarship Students will provide free transfer service to new full-scholarship students who have to make a stopover in Beijing between August 25th and September 15th. The embassies in China or Chinese diplomatic missions concerned are kindly requested to give the Transfer Service Station one week in advance the notice of arrival date as well as the numbers of flight or train.

2.Those who arrive in Beijing before or after the above-mentioned period of time or who have to make a stopover in cities other than Beijing will need to make their own arrangement to reach their universities. CHANG OF MAJOR OR INSTITUTION AND EXTENSION OF STUDY
Students are not permitted, in principle, to change their specialties, institutions or the duration of study specified in the Admission Noticeafter registration.
THE Annual Review of CHINESE GOVERNMENT Scholarship STATUS
In accordance with the Measures for the Annual Review of Chinese Government Scholarship Status, international scholarship students who have been approved to study in China for more than one year must participate in the Annual Review. The institutions will make a comprehensive review of the scholarship students and their academic record, including learning attitude, lecture attendance, and conduct performance, rewards and punishment. Those who pass the Annual Review will be qualified to enjoy the scholarship for the following academic year. Those who fail in the Annual Review will have their scholarship for the following academic year suspended or terminated. APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR CHINESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP
Chinese Government Scholarship scheme was established by the Ministry of Education of China (hereinafter referred to as MOEC) in accordance with educational exchange agreements or understandings reached between the Chinese government and the governments of other countries, educational organ, institutions and relevant international organizations to provide full scholarship and partial scholarship to international students and scholars. China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC) administers the recruitment of international students and the routine management of the Chinese Government Scholarship scheme.

Remedial Chinese language studies are arranged before major studies. If the courses for doctoral and master degree students could be conducted in English, remedial Chinese study will not be arranged. Duration for scholarship specified at the time of admission could NOT be extended in principle.
Application
The applicants may apply to Chinese diplomatic missions or the competent authorities in their home country between January and April every year. Applicants may refer to the relevant authorities for details.
Eligibility
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in good health.
2. Education background and age limit:
-Applicants for undergraduate studies must have completed senior high school with good grade and be under the age of 25.
-Applicants for master degree studies must have bachelorĄŻs degree and be under the age of 35.
-Applicants for Doctoral degree studies must have masterĄŻs degree and be under the age of 40.
-Chinese language students must have finished senior high school and be under the age of 35, will pursue the major of Chinese language in China.
-General scholar candidates must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies and be under the age of 45, may pursue all majors besides Chinese language.
-Senior scholar candidates must have master or higher degree or hold academic titles of associate professor or higher, and be under the age of 50.
Details of the Scholarship
1. Full scholarship:
-Exempt from registration fee, tuition fee, fee for laboratory experiment, fee for internship, fee for basic learning materials and accommodation;
-Living allowance and a one-off settlement subsidy;
-Fee for outpatient medical service, Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China;
-A hard-seat train ticket between the port of entry on registration or the port of departure on graduation and the city where the host university or the university of Chinese language studies is located (a hard-berth train ticket for over-night trip).
Note: 1)Costs of the laboratory experiment or internship that beyond the universityĄŻs arrangements should be afforded by the student himself.
2)Scholarship students who have to suspend their education for reason of illness should:
-Return to their home country for further treatment and rest;
-The international travel expenses of return and coming back should be shouldered by the students themselves;
-The scholarship status will be reserved for at most one year;
-The monthly living allowance will be stopped during the suspension of education;
-The scholarship of the students who suspend their education for reasons other than illness will be terminated.
3)Monthly living allowance is paid to the students by the host institution at the following rates (CNY yuan per month):
-Undergraduates: CNY 800 yuan
-Chinese language students: CNY 800 yuan
-Master degree students, general scholars: CNY 1,100 yuan
-Doctoral degree students, senior scholars: CNY 1,400 yuan
Scholarship students shall get their monthly living allowance from the date of registration. Those who register before 15th (15th included) of the registration month will get the living allowance of a full month, and those who register after 15th will get that of a half month. Scholarship of the graduates will be paid half month after their graduation date. Scholarship of those who suspend or quit their studies will be stopped from the following month. Monthly living allowance will be paid during Chinese national holidays. Scholarship students who do not get the monthly living allowance during holidays can get reimbursed on return. Monthly living allowance of the scholarship students who do not register on time or stay away from university up to one month because of non-health reasons will be stopped.
4)Fee for outpatient medical service refers to the outpatient expense generated in the institutionĄŻs hospital or the hospitals appointed by the institution. The students should afford a certain percentage of expense in accordance with the institutionĄŻs relevant regulations.
5)Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China is insured by the MOEC for the scholarship students in China against diseases and accidents. The institution is entitled to ask for compensation on the payment receipts from the insurance company for the expenses generated from hospitalizing for serious diseases or from accidental injury according to the stipulated insurance articles.
6)A one-off settlement subsidy after registration
-CNY 300 yuan for new students whose period of studies in China lasts up to six months
-CNY 600 yuan for new students whose period of studies in China lasts one academic year or more
7)A one-off inter-city travel ticket (each for coming-in and leaving China)
Scholarship students are supposed to choose the nearest port to their admitting institutions for inter-city travel and a hard-seat train ticket (hard-berth train ticket for overnight trip) will be provided to:
-Freshmen transfer from the port of entry to the city where the admitting institution is located
-Students finishing study in China transfer from the city where the institution is located to the nearest port for departure
Expenses for food during the trip and excess of baggage should be self-afforded.
8)International travel expenses
MOEC will provide the international students round-trip or one-way international air ticket based on the reached agreements, and entrust CSC to take charge of booking the most doable and economical international air ticket for the students between Beijing and their capitals. If the students take other line come to China or return back to their home country, they should afford the extra expenses as well as the excess of baggage.
2.Partial scholarship
One or some items of the full scholarship (one-off settlement subsidy and one-off inter-city travel allowance not included).
Application Materials
The applicants must fill in and provide the following materials truly and correctly (in duplicate).
1.Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship(printed by CSC), one original and one photocopy, in Chinese or in English.
2.Highest diploma (notarized photocopy). If applicants are university students or already employed, they should also provide documents of being university students or on-post employees. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
3.Applicants for undergraduate studies are required to provide notarized copy of senior high school transcripts. Applicants for other categories of studies also need to provide relevant notarized transcripts. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
4.A study or research plan in Chinese or in English (no less than 200 words for undergraduates, no less than 400 words for scholars, no less than 500 words for postgraduates).
5.Applicants overseas for master or doctoral degree studies and senior scholars must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English by professors or associate professors. Applicants who apply in China for master or doctoral degree studies must submit the Admission Notice of the targeted university.
6.Applicants for music are requested to submit one cassette recording of the applicantsĄŻ own work. Applicants for fine arts must submit six color photographs of personal works (two sketches, two color paintings and two other works).
7.Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the legal documents of their legal guardians in China.
8.Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (printed by Chinese quarantine authority and only for those whose period of studies in China lasts up to six months) filled in English. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for 6 months. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration while determining the time to take the medical examination.
The above materials should reach CSC by April 30th 2007via either the Chinese diplomatic missions in the applicantĄŻs home country or the embassy of the applicantĄŻs home country in China. CSC does not accept individual applications. Application materials will not be returned regardless of the result of application.

Applicants may choose 3 institutions and 1 specialty as personal preferences from the Chinese institutions of higher education designated by the MOEC. Applicants are required to fill in their preferences of institutions and specialties strictly within the ones listed in the Directory. Applicants for master or doctoral degree studies and senior scholars are required to submit their detailed study or research plan with other application materials.

Students who attend Chinese language training courses before major studies must pass the entrance examination or relevant courses required during their Chinese study so that to continue their major studies. Those who fail the required examinations shall end their study and leave for their home country.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR STUDY IN ASIA SCHOLARSHIP (THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION OF CHINA SCHEME)
In order to stimulate the flow of Asian students and scholars in Asian area, to strengthen mutual understanding among the people from Asian nationsŁŹto develop cooperation and exchange in the fields of education, and to promote Asian education quality, Study in Asia scholarship was set up by the Ministry of Education of China. China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC) administers the recruitment and the routine management of the scheme.
There are 20 full scholarships for academic year 2006/2007.
Categories of Applicants and Duration of Scholarship
- This scheme only sponsors general scholars, senior scholars and postgraduates with duration of one or two years.
- The courses will be taught either in English or in Chinese. Candidates who are enrolled to be taught in Chinese are required to take one year of remedial Chinese language prior to the major study if their command of Chinese language canĄŻt meet the major study.
Application
Applicants should apply to the Chinese Embassy in their home country or could directly apply to CSC. The time for application is from the beginning of January to the beginning of April.
Eligibility
